Mostly, as a person, you spend many hours doing the same things, going to the same places, eating the same food. I’m no exception. I spent many hours—almost 20 years—between three goalposts. I wasn’t tall, I wasn’t very agile, and I didn’t ask for it, but I was a goalkeeper for as long as I can remember. I could say I never enjoyed playing that position, but I never did anything to change it and play outside the box. Still, when I was there, for some reason, I felt confident. I could see the entire pitch, how my teammates were playing, and how the opponents were moving. I had the full view to shout instructions and try to organize whatever I saw unfolding: like when a defender missed a striker behind him, or when to send a long pass.

I believe all of this gave me a different perspective. Today, I try to see things from the outside, considering options and possible scenarios, listening to and understanding every opinion (though I don’t have to agree with them), and getting a broader view of the situation I’m in or want to be part of.

I think this way of seeing things naturally led me to direct and photograph commercials, documentaries, media content, short films, and music videos. I can again see how my teammates play their roles, making things happen and working together to achieve another kind of goal.

There are a few differences now: I thoroughly enjoy playing this new position, I’m always making an effort to step outside the box, and last but not least, I no longer yell at my team.

This is a brief introduction of myself: a French-Venezuelan filmmaker and former goalkeeper living in Barcelona, with a strong connection to sports and music. I truly believe in the potential of human beings, but I focus on uncovering the details in human nature to build stories.
